I hate to say it, but what you are doing is illegal. It may seem ethically wrong to bill someone in this situation but it is totally legal to do so if vitals etc were done. Someone still saw this patient even if it was not the doctor so therefore SOMEONE should be reimbursed. I don't know of any store that does not charge you for your purchases simply because you did not see the manager. If the insurance companies knew that you were not billing for these services as well as copays, coinsurances, etc. you would lose your contracts. I have been a patient so I understand the frustration, however, I also know that a bill of $100.00 is a lot cheaper then what this patient would have paid had she been seen. The other issue patients do not understand is that the Doctors do not set the pricing, the insurance companies do this, and just because the insurance was billed $1000.00 does not even mean that the Doctor was reimbursed $1000.00. There are many ways of looking at this situation as any other. The bottom line is the Facility did nothing wrong and the patient DOES need to pay this bill.
